Northeast Santa Monica

Northeast Santa Monica is a charming neighborhood of parks and beautiful homes, a world away from the touristy districts along the beach.

We're very excited to announce something we've been working on! Since we started, we've wanted to eventually make pocket-sized guides for our walking tours, and now the first of these is finally ready! Presenting the Caltech Walking Tour brochure!
Happy Year of the Ox! 🐮🐂🎊🧧 We're reminiscing of last year's Lunar New Year celebrations, when we got to attend the annual Midnight Temple Ceremony and the Golden Dragon Parade in Chinatown.
The Arlington Garden is a free public garden in Pasadena, along Pasadena Avenue on the southern edge of town. The site was cleared to make way for the 710 freeway expansion, but after the project was canceled, local gardeners turned it into a beautiful botanical garden.
For many Pasadena residents, the campus of Caltech has been a welcome respite during the pandemic, with its lush gardens, fragrant plants, and beautiful architecture.
Photographer Brenda Escobar ( @beescobee ) captures the nostalgic beauty of much of Los Angeles, from her home neighborhood of Reseda to the Toy District of Downtown LA.
Since we're going to be stuck inside a while longer, we thought we'd share a weird bit of LA transportation history. Back in the 1970s, there was a proposal to build an elevated "People Mover" (yes, much like the one that used to run at Disneyland) over the streets of Downtown. The original proposal was for a line running from Union Station to the convention center, via a tunnel through Bunker Hill. But by 1980, this was scaled down to a very short east-west line using a narrow tunnel, through what are now the parking garages of the Wells Fargo Center and Cal Plaza. The tunnel was actually built, although it was only wide enough to accommodate cars going in one direction, and it was abandoned when funding for the project was cut by the new Reagan administration.
